California King Tide

Several times a year, we experience King Tides here in Santa Cruz County, and this weekend is one of those times (see tide information below). King Tides bring both extreme low and high tides, making it a great opportunity to spend time at the beach. During this weekend, the low tides will allow families to explore tide pools that are typically inaccessible. This is a perfect chance to observe sea anemones, sea stars, hermit crabs, small fish, and many other fascinating creatures. During high tide, you can watch waves crashing onto cliffs and boulders, creating an amazing display of white water and rainbow-filled mists. My favorite spot for viewing tide pools is Pleasure Point, located off 32nd Ave.

Whenever you visit the ocean, be sure to pay attention to the surf, as a rogue wave can appear unexpectedly. Additionally, exercise caution while exploring the wet rocks at low tide and be aware of the higher surf during high tide.
